Car hire bookings usually come with an excess, but if you want to avoid paying unforeseen charges on your hire car in the event of accident, take out excess insurance. It will give you peace of mind and cover you for the excess amount and for any exclusions such as damage to glass (e.g. windows, windscreen, etc.) tyres, undercarriage, roof and loss of keys; for instance if you damage the undercarriage of the hire car, you will be liable for the full cost of repair.
