Getting there & Away
As we said, Car hire is by far the easiest way to get around, however, if you want to use public transport then there are a few options. Mainly to get from the airport, you will need to take a bus or a taxi, and depending on your end destination, you may need to take an onward bus or train from the city centre. If you are looking to explore Cork, West Cork or head into Kerry, then a hire car is really the only way to go. Buses depart about once an hour (check timetable) and go to Parnell Place bus station in Cork city with a bus changed required for other towns and cities. From the bus station you can also get a taxi to somewhere in the city centre, or you can walk (or taxi) to the train station to get a connecting train. Buses also go from south to Kinsale and Clonakilty from the airport. Taxi run from the taxi rank outside the airport; €15 cost to city centre/train station.

For Cork city, there is the Old English market which is lovely to stroll around a great place for lunch or dinner. Outside the city you have the Blarney stone to the north or also from north Cork, you are within easy reach of Limerick, Clare, Galway & Tipperary. For the east of Ireland, you are not far from Waterford County and you can drive through and into Wexford; these are known as the sunny south east. For a true Cork experience, head west into West Cork for great views, picturesque towns full of charm and character and great pubs and fabulous restaurants. My personal favourites are Kinsale, Clonakilty, Crosshaven, Baltimore, Bantry, Castletownbear, Schull and Skibbereen and Cape Clear Island. And even further to the west lies Kerry which is a county of mountains, seas, rugged hills, astounding views and great character and well work a visit.
