Cape Town International Airport,
opened in 1954, one year after Tambo International Airport (then Jan Smuts Airport) in Johannesburg. Cape Town International airport replaced the old Wingfield Aerodrome. The airport initially offered two international flights; a direct flight to Britain and a flight to Britain via Johannesberg. The airport has grown from these humble beginnings to become the third busiest airport in Africa and it is also Africa’s most award winning airport. It received the Best Airport in Africa Award by Airports Council International for 2011/2012.The airport itself is located 22kms from the city centre and serves Cape Town city and South Africa’s Western Cape.

The MiCiTi shuttle operates from the airport to the civic centre in the city. You should note that if you are getting a shuttle, your shuttle driver will meet you in the terminal before escorting you to the vehicle.
